ABOUT CHURCH IN THE WORLD
Church in the World is a six-week video and discussion-based course that helps believers think deeply about how to be the people of God in our world. It draws on Scripture, Church history and tradition, as well as some of the best Christian thinkers to help us navigate the complicated relationship between the Church and state.
Session Topics
Session 1: The Creation Mandate
Session 1 takes us back to Genesis to explore God's purpose for humanity, to bear his image and promote the flourishing of his creation.
Session 4: Ideologies
Too often, Christians can find ourselves more loyal to our political ideologies than to the King of Kings. This session explores some of the common political ideologies of the day and how the Gospel counters each of them.
Session 2: The Church's Mandate
God called his people to represent him to the people around them. When we do, we continue the work of the creation mandate as we point people to Jesus.
Session 5: The Church's Superpower
If the Church should reject coercive power, what kinds of power can it use to accomplish the task God has given us?
Session 3: The Church and Power
Session 3 examines what power is and what happened when the Church sought to use coercive power to accomplish Kingdom goals.
Session 6: A Faithful Presence
The final session explores four different historical postures Christians have taken toward the world and encourages us to see ourselves as the faithful presence of Christ to the world around us.
